Adding Gems (Documents)

Gems is an area on your site where you can upload almost any kind of file. Examples might include PDF, Quicktime Movies, or MP3. To add a gem, first click on the Gems link in your Editors Only Menu. There you will find a chronological list of all the gems you have previously uploaded. At the bottom of the list, click on the Create A New Gem Link. This will take you to a form where you will first give the gem a title. Next click the browse button to find the file on your hard-drive. Finally, click postGems: to upload the file to the server.

Making a link to a Gem works exactly like creating a link to a picture. Simply type the name of the gem in quotes on the page where you want the link to appear.

FYI: Upload times my vary depending on the size of the file you are adding. So be patient and avoid clicking “post new gem” more than once.

Tip: It is important that the files you upload DO NOT have spaces in their file name. (Example: “annual report 2004.pdf” is not optimal. Before uploading, change the filename to “annualreport2005.pdf). The reason for this is that the file name will become part of the URL address, and spaces in URLs my cause errors in some browsers.
