Culminating Activity - Pioneer Phrases

There are lots of phrases we hear people use today that began during the times of the pioneers. Sometimes we use them when we talk, but we really don't know what the phrases mean. Here are some common phrases from the times of the pioneers. See if you can figure out what they mean.

Two shakes of a lamb's tail
Cut and dried
Put through the mill
Nest egg
Small potatoes
Flash in the pan
With bells on
