Culminating Activity - Lights, Camera, Action
In this activity, students create a 10-frame filmstrip about the Pioneers of Kern County. Organize students into groups or pairs and have them choose an event on the timeline you have created as a class. Brainstorm the ten most important events. Create short captions. Discuss the organization of the information and visuals they will need for each frame. Remind them that a frame may include pictures, diagrams, maps, cartoons, tables, and graphs. On the bottom of each frame, students write one of the short captions. Students should also plan a narrative or script to accompany their filmstrip. Students might record their narrative and include appropriate background music. Suggest they include a signal (beep) to mark the beginning of each frame.
