Culminating Activity - Business Cards

Objectives

1. Evaluate information about a historical figure.
2. Summarize a person's contribution to history.

Students research a pioneer of Kern County, evaluate the most important facts about that person and then put those facts on a business card. Students can also come up with a slogan that summarizes the person's achievements. Ask students to collect as many business cards as they can and bring them to class. Encourage students to explain the kinds of information they can discover from the cards. Write this information on the board.

Before students begin to work, remind them that they have to adapt a contemporary business card to one for a historical figure. Sample:
Business Card Information:
Name of person
Occupation or career
Name of company
E-mail address,
Address, telephone number, fax number
Why you need their services
Logo or slogan - you might want to list some different slogans on the board so students will have a better idea of why a catchy slogan is important.
