View SOSCA Leave Seminar
On June 16, SOSCA, along with Toni Smith from HR, hosted a brown bag seminar providing information on the various types of leaves available to employees. Click on the link above to watch the seminar.
Many employees have questions regarding the difference between CalPers and SSI benefits. What can you expect from these services? Which will better benefit you and your situation? SOSCA is gathering questions to present in a future seminar between representatives from both CalPers and SSI. We would like to hear from you! Please sumbit any questions or areas you feel should be addressed to: lelund@kern.org. Please keep in mind this is a future seminar and the details will be published as we get them.
Purpose Statement
The objectives of this organization are to:
- Provide its members with duly authorized representation for the purpose of protecting and improving their rights under the Merit System.
- To settle disputes between employee and employer arising from grievances as they apply to the Merit System, and
- To provide the communication vehicle between employee and employer.
Membership
Our Membership continues to grow. As of March 2009, we have 851 Members!
Remember there are benefits to being a member of SOSCA. Only SOSCA members can apply for the book scholarship. SOSCA does the negotiations each year for the classified staff. With a membership this size we can accomplish many things, but we need to have participation from you, the membership! You might ask yourself, "how could I make a difference?" You can come to the general meetings. You could become a representative. Representatives attend the board meetings every other month. Send in requests for the nomination committee. Every item that goes to negotiations comes from the membership (if you don’t let us know what you want, we can’t negotiate for it!) Send items for the Newsletter. This is your newsletter and if we don’t hear from you, we don’t know what you would like to see printed. Membership is only $1.00 per month for ten months and is payroll deductible.
