Peer Helper Advisors' Training-Peer Educator Training

Who Should Attend?

Teams of two staff and four students are strongly recommended. A minimum team of one staff person and two students will be accepted. Staff may be either classified or certificated. Parent or community volunteers might also be members of a school site team.

About the training:

One of the powerful untapped resources available to schools and communities is positive youth-to-youth interaction. Training young people to deliver prevention messages to provide their peers with the knowledge, skills, attitudes and beliefs to assist them in making healthy decisions is a proven strategy. Peers have a powerful influence on the choices young people make. The Peer Educator training will provide school site teams with the information and structure to create an action plan for utilizing this proven strategy effectively. Resource and/or curricular materials specifically designed to be used by peer educators in tobacco, alcohol and other drug use, violence and HIV-Aids prevention education will be shared. Effective presentation techniques will be explored and program evaluation will be discussed.

Registration Fees:

There are no fees for staff from schools that are members of the Kern County Substance Abuse Prevention Education (KCSAPE) Partnership. The fee for nonmembers is $50/person. This fee includes all workshop materials.

Training location and dates:

Not currently on the 2007-2008 scheduled.  Check the Prevention Workshop Calendar. Flyers will be sent to all principals.
