Peer Helper Advisors' Training
Who Should Attend?
Certificated or classified school personnel interested in implementing perr helping programs in grades 4 and above at the school site.
About the training:
A peer helping program could become the most powerful program on your school site to meet the academic, social and emotional needs of your students. An impressive body of research supports the fact that peer-to-peer interactions are the most effective approach in school-based prevention/intervention programs. By providing students with skills, training and guidance to become active, responsible contributors - to their peer group, their school and the larger community of which they are a part - we decrease their risk of academic failure and tobacco, alcohol and other drug involvement and increase the likelihood that they will stay in school
This workshop for peer helper advisors is designed for those in the early stages of developing a peer helping program or advisors wanting to re-energize their program. Essential building blocks of effective programs will be explored, a variety of implementation models will be discussed and appropriate curricula and materials will be surveyed. Peer helpers and peer helper advisors from Kern County schools will share their successful experiences.
Registration Fees:
There are no fees for staff from schools that are members of the Kern County Substance Abuse Prevention Education (KCSAPE) Partnership. The fee for nonmembers is TBA/person. This fee includes all workshop materials.
Training location and dates:
