Prevention Education Through Video Production Training (5-12)

Who Should Attend?

A school Team comprised of one staff advisor and two students. Limited to grades 5-12.

About the training:

This workshop has been designed specifically for teams comprised of a classroom teacher and two students. It provides participating teams with a step-by-step approach to substance abuse prevention education through the use of video production. Specific topics to be addressed include:

  1. using video technology to deliver a message about substance use prevention;
  2. using video production as a tool to engage students in active learning; and
  3. developing public service announcements that can send a powerful message about prevention to students, adults, families and communities.

Each team will receive a copy of the Video Production Training Manual: Integrating Video Production and Prevention. The training will be limited to the first five (5) teams submitting applications which meet the following criteria:

School Site Support: Participants should have the support of their site administrator in the implementation of video production as a viable classroom teaching strategy.

Participation and Follow-Up: All team participants must commit to participation in the entire three-day training. Participating schools must obtain parent permission for their students to attend and will also be responsible for transporting their students to and from the training site. In addition, teams must be willing to share the principles and strategies learned in the training with teacher colleagues and their fellow students.
