Positive Discipline in the Classroom-Conducting Class Meetings (K-12)

Who Should Attend?

Administrators, classroom teachers and instructional aides.

About the training:

This workshop has been designed specifically for classroom teachers and will provide participants with a step-by-step approach to bring positive discipline principles and strategies to the classroom. Specific topics to be addressed in the workshop include:

  1. the eight building blocks for effective class meetings;
  2. cooperation to promote improved classroom management; and
  3. natural and logical consequences as an alternative to punishment.

Each participating teacher will receive a copy of Positive Discipline in the Classroom and a Class Meeting Facilitator Guide. The training will be limited to the first 24 applicants meeting the following criteria:

School Site Support: Participants should have the support of their site administrator in the implementation of positive discipline principles and strategies.

Participation and Follow-Up: All participants must commit to participation in the entire two-day training. In addition, participants must be willing to share the principles and strategies learned in the training with teachers/colleagues at follow-up staff meetings.

*This training satisfies the Class Size Reduction staff development requirements.

Registration Fees:

There are no fees for staff from schools that are members of the Kern County Substance Abuse Prevention Education (KCSAPE) Partnership. The fee for nonmembers is $235/person. This fee includes all workshop materials.
