About the training:

The workshop will respond to the following topics to increase participant’s awareness of the unique psychological, sociological, and legal nature of hate-motivated behavior: (a) recognizing the destructive nature of hate-motivated behavior and crime; (b) ensuring timely, accurate, and appropriate responses to hate incidents and crimes; (c) interacting effectively with the media; (d) achieving interagency cooperation when addressing hate-motivated behavior and crime and when supporting the victims of these incidents; (e) creating common language and definitions among and between community agencies regarding hate-motivated behavior and crime; (f) addressing the antecedents of hate crime and behavior across curriculum and within the four components of the school’s comprehensive safe school plan; (g) dealing with the constitutional issues of hate crime and the First Amendment, and (h) developing appropriate polices and procedures for schools and other agencies with emphasis on sharing information on a "need to know" basis for public safety.
