SAFE SCHOOL AMBASSADORS TRAINING OF TRAINERS
     About the training:  The Training of Trainers (TOT) process is designed to equip a team
     of staff at a school with the knowledge and skills to effectively lead future Expansion Trainings
     (i.e. trainings of new Ambassadors) at that school (or at another school where Community Matters
      has conducted an Initial Training to launch the SSA Program). These Expansion trainings help 
     sustain the SSA program at that school.

THE PARENT PROJECT FACILITATOR TRAINING -
     About the training: This 40-hour course provides the most comprehensive and effective
     instruction on high risk youth available today.  Participants learn proven strategies that
     change lives and discover how to develop a collaborative implementation plan designed
     to meet the specific needs of high risk families in their community.  Participants will:
          1) develop curriculum content expertise;
          2) work confidently and effectively with high risk families;
          3) know how to help parents develop a plan to prevent or
              intercede in their children's destructive behavior;
          4) develop a collaborative community implementation plan, and
          5) be certified to facilitate Parent and Teen Parent PROJECT Groups.

DRUG FREE YOUTH SUMMIT
     About the training:  The annual Drug Free Youth Summit is a count-wide event
     to highlight activities for youth involvement in Red Ribbon Week , the Great American
     Smokeout and year-round participation in prevention related groups such as Friday
     Night Live/Club Live/Friday Night Live Kids, Students Working Against Tobacco (SWAT) and Peer Helping groups.
     Participating teams will receive a Kern County Drug Free Youth Summit Resource/planning guidebook,
     a Youth Summit t-shirt for all participants and numerous creative andfun ideas and strategies for making a
     difference on their campus. Three separate sessions will be held, one for teachers/advisors of intermediate age students,
     one for teams of junior high students and one for teams of high school age students.
          Note: At least one school staff member must accompany their team of students at all times.
     Target Audience:  Elementary Day - teachers/advisors, Middle School and High School Day - 1 teacher/advisor and 4 students

     Registration Fee:   $25.00 per person-Elementary Day and $50.00 per team Middle School and High School Day

CONFLICT MEDIATION TRAINING - Part 1 for Middle/High School STAFF ONLY
      About the training:  Conflict and violence are escalating problems in Kern County schools, as they are elsewhere.
     The purpose of a conflict mediation   program is to train students to help their peers think of ways to solve problems
      for themselves in a peaceful manner.   Part I, staff will receive "basic training" in planning and implementing a
     conflict mediation program and will be introduced t the specific conflict mediation process of the middle school/high
     school. Do not bring students to Part I.

     Target Audience:  Middle School and High School Teams of 1 adult staff member and four students

PROJECT ALERT Program Training
     About the Training:  Project ALERT has been identified as a Model Science-based Program on CDE Appendix C list.
     This training will help districts fulfill LEA Plan and CPM requirements. It dramatically reduces both the onset and
     regular use of substances among middle grade youth. The two-year, fourteen-lesson program focuses on the
     substances that adolescents are most likely to use: alcohol, tobacco, marijuana, and inhalants.
     Project ALERT uses participatory activities and videos to help:
     1)  Motivate adolescents against drug use
     2)  Teach adolescents the skills and strategies needed to resist pro-drug pressures 
     3)  Establish non-drug-using norms
     Guided classroom discussions and small group activities stimulate peer interaction and challenge student beliefs
     and perceptions, while intensive role-playing activities help students learn and master resistance skills.
     Parent-involved homework assignments extend the learning process.

     physical education instructors, school nurses and counselors.
