KernCorps Our Local Americorps Program Serving California's Central Valley Communities

Now entering its twelfth year, AmeriCorps Members serve in schools, organizations, and communities throughout the southern San Joaquin Valley, at the invitation of concerned residents. To date, 241 Members have successfully completed their terms of service.

In 2008-2009, 20 AmeriCorps Members will be serving their one year of service, working as tutors and mentors in schools in Kern County.

The Members are longtime local residents whose backgrounds reflect the diversity of the communities where they work. Many have faced the same tough challenges that students in their schools experience today. They have ranged in age from 17 to 61 years old. What they share in common is a strong desire to make a difference by improving their communities. They are an excellent example of local people solving local problems.
