ChevronTexaco does the math
Students in Kern County who are struggling with math in school are grateful for an educational television program broadcast two days-a-week that can help them called “Do the Math.” ChevronTexaco recently did the math and decided to help sponsor the program broadcast by the Kern County Superintendent of Schools.
On October 14 ChevronTexaco Public Affairs Officer Linda Robinson made a live appearance on “Do the Math” and presented anchor/tutors Michael Cushine, Cece Shanyfelt, Manja Ericcson and Harlan Elrich with a contribution of $4,000.
“Do the Math’s” unique format gives students watching at home and those enrolled in After School and home school programs live instruction from professional TV mathematics tutors, every Tuesday and Wednesday, from 4:30-5:30 p.m. The program is broadcast on Bright House Cable Channel 15, Cox Cable Channel 20, Charter Cable Channels 43 (North Edwards) and 46 (Mojave/Rosamond) and Mediacom Cable Channel 8 (Ridgecrest).
“Do the Math” also provides phone help lines, (661) 636-4357 (636-HELP) and toll free (866) 636-6284 (636-MATH), presenting students with a chance to ask math homework questions of in studio math tutors from 3:30-6 p.m. Tutoring is done in English and Spanish.
“Do the Math” aids students further by making the same material available live to the teachers, aides and parents who assist them with their homework.
Major funding for “Do the Math” also comes from State Farm Companies Foundation, Panama-Buena Vista Union School District and Kern County Superintendent of Schools. Additional funding is provided by Kern Schools Federal Credit Union, Dewars Candy Shop, Greenfield Union School District and San Joaquin Bank.
