SALARY:
$3,058 - $3,691 per month. Maximum entry level $3,363 per month. Holiday, sick leave and vacation benefits. Prepaid medical, dental, vision, and counseling plans provided for employee and family. Prepaid life insurance policy provided for the employee. Employees of this office are not covered by Social Security, but do have mandatory retirement coverage with Public Employees Retirement System (PERS).
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Perform specialized and technical functions in assembling, tabulating, calculating, verifying, and reconciling payroll, insurance, and other fiscally related information.
Perform complex technical fiscal audit and management operations related to one or more specialized payroll functions.
Assist in revision, formulation, and implementation of accounting and insurance record management systems and procedures.
Prepare accounting, insurance, and payroll record analyses.
Operate computer terminals, EDP peripherals, and other machines and equipment.
Prepare system input data and analyzes, verifies, and reconciles output reports.
Interprets and provides information regarding routine legal mandates, policies, regulations, and fiscally operational guidelines to school district and county office personnel and provides technical information to state and federal agencies.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade, supplemented by training or coursework in elementary accounting, business office organization and planning, or closely related fields.
Three years of highly responsible experience in a payroll operation and three years of accounting and bookkeeping experience.
Knowledge of automated accounting record management, storage, and retrieval systems.
Ability to perform complex and technical payroll functions and general accounting, budget control and insurance administration functions.

Candidates must achieve 70% on the written examination to qualify for an oral interview. Examinations will be weighted 30% for written and 70% for oral. Candidates must obtain a composite score of 70% or better to qualify for the eligibility list.
Written examination: May 22, 2008 at 10:00 a.m. Candidates unless otherwise notified should report to the Human Resources Department and provide photo identification for entrance to the written examination. Oral examination: May 30, 2008 by individual appointment only. Late entrance to the exam or interview will not be allowed.
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
Some positions may require proof of privately owned automobile insurance and the possession of a valid California Motor Vehicle operators license. Fingerprint clearance by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the California Department of Justice is a condition of appointment after all other required job conditions have been met. This position has a probationary period of six months or 130 days in paid service, whichever is longer.
