SALARY:
$11.49 - $13.83 per hour. Maximum entry level is $12.62 per hour. Daily hours range from 6-8 hours, depending on route assigned for approximately 11 months per year. Holiday, sick leave and vacation benefits are accrued based on work schedule. Prepaid medical, dental, vision, and counseling plans provided for employee and family. Employees of this office are not covered by Social Security, but do have mandatory retirement coverage with Public Employees Retirement System (PERS).  This position is located in Lake Isabella area.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
Assist drivers loading and unloading students and supervise students while riding the bus. Attend to any special needs that may occur on the vehicle including behavior. Work with parents, teacher, instructional aides, and drivers to meet the needs of the students and their IEP’s if applicable. Administer first aide as needed.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Education equivalent to completion of the twelfth grade. One year of paid or volunteer experience working with children. Knowledge of basic concepts of children with special needs. Knowledge of behavior management strategies. Ability to maintain appropriate student behavior. Ability to perform appropriately in situations requiring tact and diplomacy. Ability to bend, squat, run, ride on bus for up to four hours at a time. Ability to lift 50 pounds.

APPLICATION AND SCREENING PROCEDURES:
All candidates must file an application and proof of education with the Human Resources Department at the Kern County Superintendent of Schools Office, 1300 17th Street, Bakersfield, CA 93301, (661) 636-4391 on or before March 15, 2010 by 5:15 p.m.

Candidates must achieve 70% on the written examination to qualify for an oral interview. Examinations will be weighted 30% for written and 70% for oral. Candidates must obtain a composite score of 70% or better to qualify for the eligibility list. For entry-level positions, veterans shall be allowed an additional credit of five points to their composite score. A copy of your DD-214 must be submitted at the time of application to receive veteran’s credit.

Written examination: March 24, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. Candidates unless otherwise notified should report to the Human Resources Department and provide photo identification for entrance to the written examination. Oral examination: March 24, 2010 by individual appointment, immediately following the written exam. Late entrance to the exam or interview will not be allowed.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
Some positions may require proof of privately owned automobile insurance and the possession of a valid California Motor Vehicle operator’s license.Fingerprint clearance by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the California Department of Justice is a condition of appointment after all other required job conditions have been met.A preplacement medical assessment is a condition of appointment after all other required job conditions have been met. This position is required to lift 50 pounds.Ability in first six months of employment to secure a certificate for first aide and CPR issued by the American Red Cross or equivalent.This position has a probationary period of six months or 130 days in paid service, whichever is longer.
