SALARY AND BENEFITS:
$12.03 - $14.52 per hour.  Maximum entry level is $13.24 per hour.  This position has a work schedule of ten hours per week, approximately ten months per year.  Holiday, sick leave, and vacation benefits are provided.  Health insurance benefits are not provided. Employees of this office are not covered by Social Security, but do have mandatory retirement coverage with Public Employees Retirement System (PERS).

RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Provide supplemental tutoring to individual and small groups of migrant students.
• Make home visits to provide tutoring to migrant students ages pre-kindergarten to age 22.
• Assist lead teacher in preparing supplemental materials to be used by migrant students.
• Attend and participate in preservice, inservice, and parent meetings.
• Assists in collecting data on identified migrant students.
• Maintains appropriate records for each migrant student.
• Tutor on extended days including weekends.

QUALIFICATIONS:
• High school graduation or equivalent required.
• Associate’s degree preferred.
• One year performing similar job duties required.
• Fluency and experience in oral and written Spanish preferred.
• Knowledge of correct oral and written language usage, spelling, grammar, and punctuation in English.
• Ability to work flexible hours based on needs of migrant families’ schedules.

Written Examination: November 19, 2009 at 10:30 a.m.
Oral Interviews: December 1, 2009

All candidates must file an application and proof of education with the Human Resources Department at the Kern County Superintendent of Schools Office, 1300 17th Street, Bakersfield, CA 93301, (661) 636-4391 on or before November 12, 2009, by 5:15 p.m.

Candidates must achieve 70% on the written examination to qualify for an oral interview.  Examinations will be weighted 30% for written and 70% for oral.  Candidates must obtain a composite score of 70% or better to qualify for the eligibility list.

Certification of proficiency in the areas of basic reading, writing, and mathematical skills must be submitted with the application in order to be considered. Policy requires one of the following to be submitted with completed application:
• Diploma from a public California high school after January 1, 1981 or
• Proof of high school proficiency test certificate or
• Possession of an Associates degree or higher

Written examination:  November 19, 2009 at 10:30 a.m.  Candidates, unless otherwise notified, should report to the Human Resources Department and provide photo identification for entrance to the written examination.  Oral examination:  December 1, 2009, by individual appointment only. Late entrance to the exam or interview will not be allowed.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
Some positions may require proof of privately owned automobile insurance and the possession of a valid California Motor Vehicle operator’s license.
Fingerprint clearance by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the California Department of Justice is a condition of appointment after all other required job conditions have been met.
This position has a probationary period of six months or 130 days in paid service, whichever is longer.
