KERN ENVIRONMENTAL EDUCATION PROGRAM

SALARY:
$14.92 per hour - $18.00 per hour for up 8 hours per day, 30 hours per week, approximately 9 months per year (September - May). Maximum entry level $16.40 per hour. Holiday, sick leave, and vacation benefits are provided on a prorated basis. Employees of this office are not covered by Social Security, but do have mandatory retirement coverage with Public Employees Retirement System (PERS). This position is located in Cambria, California.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
• Operate a school bus or transportation vehicle over designated routes within an established time schedule to transport students.
• Stop traffic and escort children across streets when necessary.
• Attend scheduled safety meetings and safety programs.
• Completes the daily transportation activity record.
• Sweeps, cleans, and refuels buses.
• Administers first aid as required.
• May be required to lift students physically and mechanically into and from bus.
QUALIFICATIONS:
• Possession of a valid Class B, Motor Vehicle Operator’s License and a School Bus Driver’s Certificate, with medical certificate, issued by the California Highway Patrol, including passage of a first aid examination.
• Education equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade, and one year of experience in the transportation of school children, or the completion of a school bus driver training program.
• Knowledge of safe driving practices and techniques.
• Knowledge of the safety and maintenance requirements of bus and other pupil transportation equipment.
• Knowledge of the provisions of the Education Code, California Motor Vehicle Code and Title 13 applicable to the operation of vehicles in the transportation of school children.
• Ability to lift up to 55 pounds.

APPLICATION AND SCREENING PROCEDURES:
All candidates must file an application with the Human Resources Department at the Kern County Superintendent of Schools Office, 1300 17th Street, Bakersfield, CA 93301, (661) 636-4391 on or before October 30, 2007.
Candidates must achieve 70% on the written examination to qualify for an oral interview. Examinations will be weighted 30% for written and 70% for oral. Candidates must obtain a composite score of 70% or better to qualify for the eligibility list.
Written examination: November 2, 2007 at 12:00 p.m. Candidates unless otherwise notified should report to the KEEP Cambria Pines Campus located at 710 Ashby Lane, Cambria, California and provide photo identification for entrance to the written examination. Oral examination: November 2, 2007 following the written exam. Any questions or requests for directions should be directed to (805) 927-1294. Late entrance to the exam or interview will not be permitted.
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
Some positions may require proof of privately owned automobile insurance and possess a valid California Motor Vehicle operator’s license. A pre-placement medical assessment is a condition of appointment after all other required job conditions have been met. Possess or secure within 90 days of employment a certificate for first aide and CPR issued by the American Red Cross or equivalent. Fingerprint clearance by both the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the California Department of Justice is a condition of appointment after all other required job conditions have been met. This position has a probationary period of six months or 130 days in paid service, whichever is longer.
