SALARY & BENEFITS:
$9.55 - $11.49 per hour for 19 hours per week, for 9 to 12 months per year, depending upon assignment. Maximum entry level is $10.49 per hour. Holiday, sick leave, and vacation benefits are provided on a prorated basis. Employees of this office are not covered by Social Security, but do have mandatory retirement coverage with Public Employees Retirement System (PERS).
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Assist in planning and providing age appropriate activities in the area of early childhood education. Assist children to identify and verbalize their concerns and issues. Assist in maintaining a safe, healthy, and comfortable environment. Assist with continuous evaluation of children's progress. Participate in on-site and off-site learning opportunities. Participates in parent conferences as requested. Maintain and organize supplies and instructional materials.
QUALIFICATIONS:
High school graduate or equivalent training. A minimum of six post high school semester units in child development is required. Requires experience with preschool children, either on a volunteer or paid basis. Knowledge of basic methods of child care. Ability to lift 50 pounds, move quickly, bend, squat, kneel, sit on floor, and reach overhead. Completion of pediatric CPR and first aid training through an accredited or approved program and hold a current pediatric CPR and first aid certificate or the ability to obtain CPR and first aid certificate within six months of hire date.
APPLICATION AND SCREENING PROCEDURES:
All candidates must file an application and college transcripts or other proof of education with the Human Resources Department at the Kern County Superintendent of Schools, 1300 17th Street, Bakersfield, CA 93301, (661) 636-4391 on or before September 15, 2009, by 5:15 p.m.
Candidates must achieve 70% on the written examination to qualify for an oral interview. Examinations will be weighted 30% for written and 70% for oral. Candidates must obtain a composite score of 70% or better to qualify for the eligibility list. For entry-level positions, veterans shall be allowed an additional credit of five points to their composite score. A copy of your DD-214 must be submitted at the time of application.
Written examination: September 23, 2009, at 10:30 a.m. Candidates, unless otherwise notified, should report to the Human Resources Department, and provide photo identification for entrance to the written examination. Oral examination: September 30, 2009, by individual appointment only. Late entrance to the exam or interview will not be allowed.
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
Some positions may require proof of privately owned automobile insurance and the possession of a valid California Motor Vehicle operator’s license.
Fingerprint clearance by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the California Department of Justice is a condition of appointment after all other required job conditions have been met.
A preplacement medical assessment is a condition of appointment after all other required job conditions have been met. This position is required to lift 50 pounds.
This position has a probationary period of six months or 130 days in paid service, whichever is longer.
