As part of its commitment to provide educational resources for America's schools, Target launched the Target Field Trip Grants program in 2006. The program was designed to help teachers bring learning to life for students and enhance classroom studies. Target Field Trip Grants can be used to cover the cost of transportation, entry fees, supplies and classroom resource materials so that teachers may continue using the valuable experiential learning gained from math and science, language, social studies and arts-focused field trips.
WHALE TAIL Grants Program - Deadline: November 16
The California Coastal Commission's WHALE TAIL(r) Grants Program is now accepting proposals for coastal and marine education projects. This program funds projects encouraging people to value and take action to improve the health of California's coast, marine life, or watersheds that connect with the coast. Educational coastal habitat restoration and beach maintenance projects are also eligible. Emphasis is on reaching underserved students and members of the public. Nonprofits, schools, and government agencies may apply. Applicants may request up to $50,000, and 25-50% of the funding will be allocated in small grants below $10,000.
CVS Community Grants (January 1, 2009 to October 31, 2009)
The CVS Caremark Community Grants program awards funds to nonprofit organizations for programs targeting children with disabilities; programs focusing on health and rehabilitation services; and public schools promoting a greater level of inclusion in student activities and extracurricular programs, and initiatives that give greater access to physical movement and play. Additionally, some contributions are made to organizations that provide uninsured individuals with needed care, in particular programs where the care received is of higher quality and delivered by providers who participate in accountable community health care programs. The grant application process runs from January 1 through October 31. Qualifying organizations are eligible for grants of up to $5,000.
GreenWorks! Deadline: October 31, 2009
Project Learning Tree's GreenWorks! Grants support projects that allow students and local community members to learn by doing environmental projects. The focus is on creating projects that allow for schools and youth to make a positive impact on their communities. Selected applicants will receive between $250 and $5,000 to conduct community environmental projects. The projects must be planned and implemented by youth, integrate student learning and community service and include at least one community
partner.
Shade Structure Grant - Application released in mid-October
The American Academy of Dermatology's Shade Structure Program awards grants in the amount of $8,000 each for the purchase of permanent shade structures designed to provide shade and ultraviolet (UV) ray protection for outdoor areas. The AAD also provides a permanent sign to be displayed near the shade structure that promotes the importance of sun safety. The AAD receives support for this program from Johnson & Johnson Consumer Products Company.
Toyota TAPESTRY Grants -Deadline: January 2010
The Toyota TAPESTRY Grants for Science Teachers is a partnershipbetween Toyota Motor Sales, U.S.A. and the National Science Teachers Association (NSTA). Fifty large grants of up to $10,000 each and at least 20 to 32 mini-grants of up to $2,500 will be awarded to K-12 teachers of science in the United States. Grants are awarded for innovative classroom projects in environmental science education, physical science application, and integrating literacy and science education. Middle and high school science teachers with at least two years of experience teaching science in a K-12 school are eligible to apply. General Mills Foundation - Online applications are available November 2009, Deadline: January 15, 2010
The General Mills Foundation, in partnership with the American Dietetic Association Foundation and the President's Council on Physical Fitness, developed the Champions for Healthy Kids grant program in 2002. Each year the General Mills Foundation awards 50 grants of $10,000 each to community-based groups, including schools and school districts, which develop creative ways to help youth adopt a balanced diet and physically active lifestyle.
ING UnSung Heroes Grant - Deadline: April 30, 2010
The ING Unsung Heroes grant program awards grants of $2,000 each to100 educators to help fund innovative class projects. Three of those winners are chosen to receive the top awards of an additional $5,000, $10,000 and $25,000. An ING Unsung Heroes video provides an overview. Lowe's Charitable & Educational Foundation - Grants for Education and Communities (national)
Deadline: Ongoing
Funding supports public education projects as well as community improvement projects. Eligible public education projects include: construction and trades related education initiatives; clean-up, landscaping and painting projects; playground enhancements; and minor repair/renovation of public school buildings. Community involvement projects must fall within the following focus areas: park and neighborhood beautification and enhancements (flowers, trees, fresh paint, etc.); building repair/renovation and landscaping enhancements of facilities serving the community; community garden, park, or playground projects; community clean-up initiatives; and outdoor learning environments such as educational gardening programs.
Do Something and Dunkin Brands Community Foundation Offers Young People Grants for Disaster Preparedness Projects. Do Something and Dunkin Brands Community Foundation is offering $500 grants to young people ages 25 and younger across the United States and Canada. The grants are awarded to young people to support their ideas for community service projects around the themes of disaster preparedness and emergency response. Applicants must be a U.S. citizen. Grants will be awarded weekly.
Bowerman Track Renovation Program
The Bowerman Track Renovation Program, administered by Nike's Corporate Responsibility Department, provides matching cash grants to community-based, youth-oriented organizations that seek to refurbish or construct running tracks anywhere in the world. Matching grants of up to $50,000 are provided to nonprofit organizations, NGOs, government agencies, schools, and school districts. Requests are reviewed quarterly, and will be accepted on an ongoing basis through May 31, 2009. Application guidelines may be downloaded from the website listed above.
Toyota USA Foundation
The Toyota USA Foundation is committed to improving the quality of K-12 education throughout the country by supporting innovative programs that improve the teaching and learning of mathematics and science. The Foundation places priority on systemic math and science programs that are broad in scope and incorporate interdisciplinary curricula, "real-world" classroom applications, and high student expectations; creative and innovative programs which develop the potential of students and/or teachers; and cost-effective programs that possess a high potential for success and relatively low duplication of effort. Grants are made to colleges and universities, vocational and trade schools, and nonprofit organizations engaged in pre-collegiate math and/or science education. K-12 public and private schools are not eligible to apply. Requests may be submitted at any time. Online application guidelines are available on the Foundation's website.
Do Something Plum Youth Grants

Do Something Plum Youth Grants are available to young people who submit creative proposals to further the growth and success of their existing community action project. Maximum Award: $500. Eligibility: Applicant must be 25 or younger at the time of application.
Airborne Trust Fund Grants
Deadline: Ongoing
The fund invites school teachers to submit proposals for art and music programs that have been cut, or are in danger of being cut, due to budget constraints. Previous programs funded include art, crafts, musicals and theatre, and music.

Captain Planet Foundation - Environmental Youth Programs (international)
Deadlines for submitting grant applications are March 31, June 30, September 30, and December 31.
The funding supports interactive programming that promotes the understanding of environmental issues in children and young adults, ages 6-18.

Monarch Butterflies
The Live Monarch Foundation (501c3) Educator Outreach Program is providing funding for 4,600 teachers throughout the United States to enroll into the National Campaign: to bring Monarch Butterflies into the classroom. This program provides education and materials to strengthen the Monarch 3,000 mile migratory route within North America by creating self sustaining butterfly gardens and refuges.
