Funding supports hands-on environmental projects for children and young adults ages six through 18. Projects should empower children and youth to work individually and collectively to solve environmental problems in their neighborhoods and communities.

Best Buy Awards for Interactive te@ch Programs
October 12, 2008

The Best Buy te@ch program rewards schools for successful interactive programs they have launched with available technology. Winning te@ch programs focus on kids using technology to learn a standards-based curriculum, rather than on teaching students to use technology or educators using technology that children aren't able to use hands-on. Maximum Award: $5,000. Eligibility: Accredited K-12 public, private, parochial, and nonprofit charter schools in the United States.

Music is Revolution Foundation - Grants for Music Education (national)
October 15, 2008
Grants enable teachers to provide quality music education to their students. The foundation is particularly interested in applications containing activities that expose students to genres and styles of music not likely to be experienced as a part of their normal daily lives. Funds may be used for supplies, materials, equipment, transportation for a field trip, and/or to bring a performer or musical group to the school.

The NEA Foundation - Learning and Leadership Grants (national)
October 15, 2008
Grants fund learning and leadership opportunities for education professionals, with the goal of helping them improve practice, curriculum and student achievement. Individual awards fund participation in high quality professional development experiences, such as summer institutes or action research. Grants to groups fund collegial study, including: study groups; action research; lesson study; or mentoring experiences for faculty or staff who are new to an assignment.

Healthy Sprouts Awards
October 15, 2008

The National Gardening Association recognizes outstanding youth programs via the Healthy Sprouts Awards. The awards support school and youth garden programs that teach about nutrition and the issue of hunger in the United States. Maximum Award: $500 gift certificate to Gardener's Supply. Eligibility: schools or organizations that plan to garden with children between the ages of 3 and 18.

School Improvement Grants for Parent Involvement
Deadline: Oct. 17, 2008
Lowe's Toolbox for Education grant program finances school-improvement projects initiated by parents. Maximum Award: $5,000. Eligibility: K-12 schools (including charter, private, and parochial schools) and parent groups associated with a nonprofit, K-12 schools.

Target Field Trips
November 1, 2008
Target will award 5,000 Field Trip Grants of up to $800 each during the 2008-2009 school year. That adds up to 5,000 more opportunities for students to explore more of the world outside the classroom.

National Gardening Association and The Home Depot - Youth Garden Grants Program (national)

Funding supports youth-centered gardening programs that involve at least 15 children between the ages of three and 18. Priority will be given to programs that emphasize one or more of the following: educational focus or curricular/program integration; nutrition or plant-to-food connections; environmental awareness/education; entrepreneurship; and social aspects of gardening, such as leadership development, team building, community support or service-learning.

Hidden Valley Love Your Veggies Grant

The makers of Hidden Valley® Salad Dressings are now accepting applications for the 2008-09 Love Your Veggies™ grant program. Each grant award will support an elementary school in developing a program offering fresh vegetables and fruits lasting through the 2009-10 school year. Each school grant will consist of $15,000 in direct funding.

WHALE TAILS Grant Program
November 15, 2008
The WHALE TAILS  Grants Program is aimed at encouraging the development of programs to teach California’s children and the general public to value and take responsibility for the health of the state’s marine and coastal environments. The program distributes funds from sales of the WHALE TAILSM  License Plate and focuses on reaching communities that are currently poorly served in terms of marine and coastal education.  The WHALE TAILS  Grants Program funds projects that fall into any one of the following three categories: 1) Adopt-A-Beach programs; 2) School programs; 3) Programs for the general public. Applicants must be either a non-profit organization or a governmental entity. Applications are accepted once a year in the fall.

Scholastic - Lexus Eco Water Challenge for Teens (national)

Funding supports projects developed by students that address an environmental community issue related to: water conservation and fresh water shortages; shrinking wetlands and aquatic habitats; or threats to the world's waterways and oceans.

National Endowment for the Humanities’ (NEH) We the People program
Applications accepted from September 2, 2008 to January 30, 2009
The “Picturing America” Bookshelf grants are part of the NEH's We the People initiative, which aims to encourage and strengthen the teaching, study, and understanding of American history and culture through libraries, schools, colleges, universities, and cultural institutions. Since 2003, NEH and ALA have awarded We the People Bookshelves to 9,000 public and school libraries. NEH plans to issue a We the People Bookshelf each year on themes related to American ideas and ideals.

Lowe's Charitable & Educational Foundation - Grants for Education and Communities (national)

Funding supports public education projects as well as community improvement projects. Eligible public education projects include: construction and trades related education initiatives; clean-up, landscaping and painting projects; playground enhancements; and minor repair/renovation of public school buildings. Community involvement projects must fall within the following focus areas: park and neighborhood beautification and enhancements (flowers, trees, fresh paint, etc.); building repair/renovation and landscaping enhancements of facilities serving the community; community garden, park, or playground projects; community clean-up initiatives; and outdoor learning environments such as educational gardening programs.

Do Something Plum Youth Grants

Do Something Plum Youth Grants are available to young people who submit creative proposals to further the growth and success of their existing community action project. Maximum Award: $500. Eligibility: Applicant must be 25 or younger at the time of application.

Airborne Trust Fund Grants
Deadline: Ongoing

The fund invites school teachers to submit proposals for art and music programs that have been cut, or are in danger of being cut, due to budget constraints. Previous programs funded include art, crafts, musicals and theatre, and music.

The intention of this program is to engage youth in resolving environmental problems in their community.

Monarch Butterflies
The Live Monarch Foundation (501c3) Educator Outreach Program is providing funding for 4,600 teachers throughout the United States to enroll into the National Campaign: to bring Monarch Butterflies into the classroom.  This program provides education and materials to strengthen the Monarch 3,000 mile migratory route within North America by creating self sustaining butterfly gardens and refuges. Current extreme weather has eliminated early milkweed growth...your participation is critical.

Do Something and GameStop - Youth Grants (Canada and United States)
