Chevron Classroom Grant Workshop

STEM GRANTs- Currently, Chevron is offering funding for selected projects that focus on science, technology, engineering and math (STEM). Do you know K-12 educators or students? Want to get them involved in a fun and inspiring project? Tell them
about Doodle 4 Google, a competition where students design the Google logo alongside a theme. This year’s theme is “If I Could Do Anything, I Would…”, and the winning doodler will have his or her artwork viewed by millions on the Google homepage, win a college scholarship, earn computers for his or her school,and have his or her winning design exhibited in the Smithsonian’s, Cooper-Hewitt National Design Museum.

McCarthey Dressman Education Foundation Teacher Development Grants
Purpose:  The Teacher Development Grants provide funding to individuals or small teams of teachers in the formation and implementation of groundbreaking k-12 classroom instruction. The grants provide opportunities for teachers to integrate fresh strategies that encourage critical inquiry and to observe their effects on students. Teachers have the opportunity to reflect and write about their projects, as well as to share their results with other teachers.

ING Run For Something Better (ING RFSB)

Purpose:  With the goal to empower school age children nationwide with the means to achieve and maintain a healthy lifestyle, ING Run For Something Better (ING RFSB), in partnership with the National Association for Sport and Physical Education (NASPE), has developed a school-based running program. In addition to fighting childhood obesity, research shows that physical activity improves self esteem, school performance and overall well being.

Libri Foundation Books for Children  
Purpose:  The Libri Foundation is a nationwide non-profit organization which donates new, quality, hardcover children's books to small, rural public libraries in the United States through its BOOKS FOR CHILDREN program.
 
InvenTeam initiative
 Purpose:  The InvenTeam initiative is designed to excite high school students about invention through hands-on learning, while encouraging an inventive culture in schools and communities long-term. Each InvenTeam will receive up to $10,000 in grant funding to invent a practical solution to a real-world problem of their choosing.

Keep Gym in School: Physical Education Program Grant 2009 - 2010
Purpose:  To improve Physical Education programs and to raise awareness for the important role that PE plays in the lives of our nation's children, NFL Network is providing ten $1,000 grants to middle schools across the country. Creating and improving fitness programs, purchasing equipment and helping with needed facility improvements, NFL Network’s Keep Gym in School will provide ten in-need middle schools with the resources they need to deliver quality Physical Education to their students.

Microsoft DigiGirlz High Tech Camp for girls works to dispel stereotypes of the high-tech industry and gives young people a chance to experience firsthand what it is like to develop cutting-edge technology. During the camp, girls are exposed to executive speakers, technology tours and demonstrations, networking and hands-on learning workshops. Maximum Award: camp attendance. Scholastic Lexus Environmental Challenge | Deadline varies; see website.
The Scholastic Lexus Environmental Challenge program is designed to educate and empower students to take action to improve the environment. The program encourages middle and high school students to develop and implement environmental programs that positively impact their communities. Middle and high school teams comprised of 5 to 10 students and one teacher advisor are invited to participate in four initial challenges, each addressing a different environmental element -- land, water, air, and climate. Mix It Up Grants | Deadline: Rolling
The Southern Poverty Law Center is accepting applications for its Mix It Up grants program to support on-going projects led and directed by youth (ages 13 years and older) that challenge the status quo, are creative in their approach to encouraging engagement in socially just behaviors, involve collaborations across social boundaries, and are fiscally responsible. General Mills Foundation - Online applications are available November 2009, Deadline: January 15, 2010
The General Mills Foundation, in partnership with the American Dietetic Association Foundation and the President's Council on Physical Fitness, developed the Champions for Healthy Kids grant program in 2002. Each year the General Mills Foundation awards 50 grants of $10,000 each to community-based groups, including schools and school districts, which develop creative ways to help youth adopt a balanced diet and physically active lifestyle.

ING UnSung Heroes Grant - Deadline: April 30, 2010
The ING Unsung Heroes grant program awards grants of $2,000 each to100 educators to help fund innovative class projects. Three of those winners are chosen to receive the top awards of an additional $5,000, $10,000 and $25,000. An ING Unsung Heroes video provides an overview. Lowe's Charitable & Educational Foundation - Grants for Education and Communities (national)
Deadline: Ongoing

Funding supports public education projects as well as community improvement projects. Eligible public education projects include: construction and trades related education initiatives; clean-up, landscaping and painting projects; playground enhancements; and minor repair/renovation of public school buildings. Community involvement projects must fall within the following focus areas: park and neighborhood beautification and enhancements (flowers, trees, fresh paint, etc.); building repair/renovation and landscaping enhancements of facilities serving the community; community garden, park, or playground projects; community clean-up initiatives; and outdoor learning environments such as educational gardening programs.

Do Something and Dunkin Brands Community Foundation Offers Young People Grants for Disaster Preparedness Projects.  Do Something and Dunkin Brands Community Foundation is offering $500 grants to young people ages 25 and younger across the United States and Canada.  The grants are awarded to young people to support their ideas for community service projects around the themes of disaster preparedness and emergency response.  Applicants must be a U.S. citizen.  Grants will be awarded weekly. 

Bowerman Track Renovation Program
The Bowerman Track Renovation Program, administered by Nike's Corporate Responsibility Department, provides matching cash grants to community-based, youth-oriented organizations that seek to refurbish or construct running tracks anywhere in the world. Matching grants of up to $50,000 are provided to nonprofit organizations, NGOs, government agencies, schools, and school districts. Requests are reviewed quarterly, and will be accepted on an ongoing basis through May 31, 2009. Application guidelines may be downloaded from the website listed above.

Toyota USA Foundation
The Toyota USA Foundation is committed to improving the quality of K-12 education throughout the country by supporting innovative programs that improve the teaching and learning of mathematics and science. The Foundation places priority on systemic math and science programs that are broad in scope and incorporate interdisciplinary curricula, "real-world" classroom applications, and high student expectations; creative and innovative programs which develop the potential of students and/or teachers; and cost-effective programs that possess a high potential for success and relatively low duplication of effort. Grants are made to colleges and universities, vocational and trade schools, and nonprofit organizations engaged in pre-collegiate math and/or science education. K-12 public and private schools are not eligible to apply. Requests may be submitted at any time. Online application guidelines are available on the Foundation's website.

Do Something Plum Youth Grants

Do Something Plum Youth Grants are available to young people who submit creative proposals to further the growth and success of their existing community action project. Maximum Award: $500. Eligibility: Applicant must be 25 or younger at the time of application.

Airborne Trust Fund Grants
Deadline: Ongoing

The fund invites school teachers to submit proposals for art and music programs that have been cut, or are in danger of being cut, due to budget constraints. Previous programs funded include art, crafts, musicals and theatre, and music.

Captain Planet Foundation - Environmental Youth Programs (international)
Deadlines for submitting grant applications are March 31, June 30, September 30, and December 31.

The funding supports interactive programming that promotes the understanding of environmental issues in children and young adults, ages 6-18.
The intention of this program is to engage youth in resolving environmental problems in their community.

Monarch Butterflies
The Live Monarch Foundation (501c3) Educator Outreach Program is providing funding for 4,600 teachers throughout the United States to enroll into the National Campaign: to bring Monarch Butterflies into the classroom.  This program provides education and materials to strengthen the Monarch 3,000 mile migratory route within North America by creating self sustaining butterfly gardens and refuges. Current extreme weather has eliminated early milkweed growth...your participation is critical.
