Welcome!

Oral Language Development

The development of oral language is one of the child's most natural and impressive accomplishments.  At the most basic level, oral language means communicating with other people. But when we talk about oral language development we do not mean teaching children to speak as much as we mean improving their ability to talk or communicate more effectively.

The table below, Stages of Oral Language Development, presents typical activities and achievements for children from two to five years of age. It is important to keep in mind that the time frames presented are averages and some children may achieve various developmental milestones earlier or later than the average but still be within the normal range.
