The California Department of Education, Child Development Division (CDE/CDD) has developed a draft preschool curriculum framework in the areas of visual and performing arts, physical development, and health. The curriculum framework will support the field’s use of the California Preschool Learning Foundations, Volume 2.
In June 2009, the CDE/CDD conducted five day-long, formative focus groups throughout the state to obtain information from the early childhood field on the needs and expectations for a preschool curriculum framework. Input gathered from the focus groups was used by the CDE/CDD to guide the development of the first draft of the Preschool Curriculum Framework, Volume 2.
The CDE/CDD will now conduct a second set of five day-long focus groups that will take place in December 2009 to provide an opportunity to review a draft of the preschool curriculum framework and gather feedback.
