As a professional organization CMC is uniquely positioned to help steer a clear course towards quality mathematics instruction for all California students. In these times of flux and change, I am eager to play a major role in working on such an endeavor.

I bring 31 years of experience as an educator: from elementary classroom teacher to university lecturer, from mathematics coach to materials reviewer, from professional development provider to education programs consultant at the department of education

I have served CMC in many capacities as well. At the section level, I have served as President, President-elect, Treasurer, and member of numerous committees. I have co-chaired and served on State committees as well.

These composite experiences have provided me with valuable insight as well as a broadened perspective of what is and what can be within our state. Coupled with a willingness to lead, I am ready to work towards fulfilling the mission of our organization.
I am currently CMC-North President-Elect and will become President in January 2010. I have also served as CMC-N Treasurer for 4 years. I have also been involved with CMC state activities such as monitoring the Mathematics Instructional Materials adoption process and attending State Board of Education and Curriculum Commission meetings. I am currently working on my doctorate in Learning and Instruction at the University of San Francisco and have been involved in mathematics education for over 20 years as a middle school math teacher, coach, and project coordinator working with administrators and teachers to improve student achievement. As CMC State President Elect, I will continue to serve the California mathematics education community by strengthening our partnerships and networks and our presence in Sacramento.

I had taught for 34 years before I retired. CMC has been a part of more than half of those years and truly made a difference in how I taught mathematics. I have had the pleasure of working with CMC-South in many capacities. From a conference volunteer stuffing bags to chairing a variety of conference committees and to have the opportunity to serve two terms as the CMC-South secretary. In my retirement years, I’ve had the pleasure of bringing the CMC Math Festivals to schools throughout Southern California.

I look forward to serving this organization as Secretary and would do my best to fulfill the duties of this office.

CMC's commitment to "communicate with educators, parents, the public and legislative bodies concerning issues related to teaching rigorous, challenging mathematics..." has never been so crucial. Bringing the reality of the classroom to the knowledge-base of state policy-makers and legislators is critical during this challenging time. During the past 35 years, I have garnered a wealth of experience and insights by teaching self-contained classes from kindergarten through seventh grade, middle school mathematics, Algebra I, and math methodology at CSU, Stanislaus. I have also presented at several CMC and NCTM conferences. Currently, I review submitted SB472 math programs for CDE, serve on several DAIT teams, and provide extensive math coaching and professional development throughout California. At this time, it seems appropriate to blend my work in education with the work of the professional organization representing teachers of mathematics. I welcome the opportunity to become involved with CMC as State Secretary and look forward to serving our membership through another avenue.

Treasurer

April Goodman-Orcutt
As I finish my first term as your State Treasurer, the financial state of our organization is in a different position than it was two years ago. In the six years I have been involved in the California Mathematics Council I have seen our budget fluctuate in good times and in difficult times. Once again, we need to make smart decisions about our finances and at the same time move our organization forward in making us the group that everyone looks to, seeks advice from and gathers input regarding mathematics. I would appreciate your support in re-electing me so I can continue with our work in making our organization the best we can be during these critical times. As a middle school teacher, I am aware of the limitations and struggles that we have as teachers to do our best in our classroom and help our students reach their full potential. Any opportunity that we have to make mathematics more relevant and reachable for our students is an opportunity worth seeking. As we look to the funds that are being offered from the federal government and opportunities to be proactive here in our own state, we need to be creative and forward thinking to put the needs of our students, teachers, professional development providers, coaches, etc. at the forefront of our actions.

I have had the pleasure to be the Student Activity Trust Chair for CMC-State for the past 14 years. Reading the applications and reports and attending the CA breakfast at the annual NCTM meeting is something I look forward to every year.

At CMC-N meetings, I represent SCVMA. I have held many elective and appointed positions in SCVMA, including president. I have been involved in CMC-N manning the Asilomar information booth. In previous years, I have planned the program for the CMC-N leadership conferences. My background is in teaching high school. I have taught classes that include refresher math and Calculus. The last 10 years of my high school career, I retired two years ago, I taught at-risk juniors and seniors that needed to pass a math class and pass the CAHSEE in order to graduate. I am currently teaching part-time at SJSU K-8 elementary math classes for future teachers.

I thoroughly enjoy working with the CMC-N and CMC-State leadership. I would like the opportunity to become CMC- N section president-elect.

I have always had a passion for mathematics education. CMC has continually fueled this passion during my 14 years of teaching. I have taught a variety of grades in both elementary and middle school.  I  have also served as a Math Coach in Millbrae and for the Tehama County Department of Education spanning grades K-6. The CMC-N Vice President's primary responsibility is to plan the program for the Asilomar Mathematics Conferences. I am currently on the Asilomar Mathematics Conference Program Committee which has allowed me the opportunity to know what is needed to plan for the conference, anticipate member needs, and to recruit exceptional speakers.  In addition, I have served as the Conference Chairperson for the Mt. Lassen Mathematics Council's Annual Fall Conference which has helped me refine my skills as a conference program planner. I will use my experience, skills, and passion for mathematics education to continue to provide the high quality mathematics conference we have all come to expect.

This will be my 10th year of teaching Mathematics at San Mateo High School, previously at Pittsburg High School. For the past 3 years I have served as Department Chair and District Math Coordinator. I believe strongly in supporting and sharing with other teachers and am invested in articulation efforts with middle schools, other high school districts, Cal-PASS, and CMSESMC, our local CMC-North affiliate. I believe that teacher organizations have a strong role in the continuous improvement of our state’s education system and would like to serve in that effort as a member of the CMC-North Board.
I am running for re-election for the office of CMC-North Treasurer. I will be completing my first term as your treasurer and have learned a lot about the organization as the treasure and would like to continue to serve the organization. The organization is a group of dedicated volunteers and I will be happy to serve on the board as your treasurer.

I am currently a part time instructor at DeAnza College and have retired from 35 years of high school teaching. I am a past president of The Santa Clara Valley Mathematics Association and continue to serve on the executive board. I am a life member of CMC, CTA Retired, NEA, and CRTA.

Please vote for me, Chris Tsuji, for your CMC-North Treasurer.

I was asked to come forward and participate in CMC and the more I learn about the mission of this cause, the more I am excited to become a part of it. I have taught many different curriculums from IMP and CPM to a more traditional format of instruction and one thing is clear, whether I was teaching in Oxnard or in Bakersfield, math teachers want what's best for their students. I have talked at length with many teachers and professors in classrooms, conferences, and workshops who want to become part of the solution of making mathematics accessible and understandable for all students. I think this would be the perfect avenue for me to use this knowledge to take a more active role outside of my own classroom to truly bring a positive change to our current situation in teaching mathematics for all math levels.
I have worked for 17 years in Fresno USD, and have been the CMC Central Secretary for the past two years. I was an Interactive Mathematics Program (IMP) teacher, a professional developer for the district mathematics office, a middle school mathematics coach, the mathematics director of our CaMSP lesson study grant involving 50 teachers per year from 2004-2008, and currently am a high school Instructional Coach. I authored an article in CMC’s ComMuniCator detailing how lesson study began in our district. I have participated on CAHSEE Item Review and Standards Setting Committees. I look forward to continuing to serve the CMC-Central mathematics community.
