2008 Literacy Calendar
With the generous support of Castle & Cooke, the CEL of Kern County and CCCC Resource & Referral, the 2008 Literacy Calendar provides developmentally appropriate early learning opportunities, promotes early childhood literacy and improves children's school readiness.

Available on-line, the calendar offers parents and providers daily and weekly low-cost activities to do with infants and preschoolers of all abilities to encourage children to explore the world around them. The calendar also features literacy enrichment advice, storytelling tips, snack ideas and arts and crafts each month. Printed copies are available at the CEL of Kern County office at the Community Connection for Child Care 24th Street office. Check it out today!

2-1-1 is a single telephone number that cuts through the red tape and connects you to a trained information and referral specialist who suggests community and government organizations who can help 24 hours a day 7 days a week. Whether you are looking for help or looking to volunteer, 2-1-1 helps you navigate the health and human service system in times of crisis or in times of everyday needs and challenges.

In Kern County, 2-1-1 service will be provided by the Community Action Partnership of Kern (the Partnership). The Partnership currently provides Information and Referral services through its HelpLine program. On October 1, 2007, the Partnership will be launching the 2-1-1 system. HelpLine/2-1-1's multilingual phone staff undergoes professional training that prepares them to assess callers' needs and assist them with navigating a maze of human services agencies and programs.
