North of the River Recreation and Park District (Willowtree Preschool)
Part-time day care head teacher position is for Willowtree Preschool for up to 32 hrs/wk, Monday - Friday, between 06:45am-6:00 pm. Day Care head teachers start at $12.66 - $13.96 per hour.

The Day Care Head Teacher is responsible for directing the Willowtree Preschool. The Head Teacher provides unity and continuity to the California State Licensed program and being sensitive, mature, and relating well to both children and adults. Supervise Day Care Teachers, Assistant Teachers, Aides, and Volunteers.

Must be at least 18 years of age and a high school graduate or equivalent with four years experience working in an instructional capacity in a licensed program. Additional education may be substituted for the experience requirements as per State licensing guidelines. Some supervisory experience required. Must have completed semester units as follows: 15 units in child development (to include 3 units in infant care) and 3 administrative or staff relations units. Must be able to relate to other people beyond giving and receiving instructions; can get along with co-workers or peers without exhibiting behavioral extremes; perform work activities requiring negotiating, instructing, supervising, persuading or speaking with others; and respond appropriately to criticism from a supervisor.

  • California State Licensing Requirements
  • A reference investigation will be conducted to include licensing fingerprinting
  • Must submit to a post offer medical, TB Skin, and drug screen
  • Official Transcripts required upon job offer.
  • Must have a valid California Driver's License and provide a valid auto insurance certificate upon job offer. Driving record must comply with District safety standards.
  • Must submit verification of your identity and citizenship or legal right to work in the United States

    PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT:
    All work is performed in a child care environment with indoor activities that include standing, sitting on the floor/chair and outdoor activities that include standing and walking on playground concrete, sand and grass. Some exposure to household cleaning supplies. At some locations, setting and washing tables, dish washing and kitchen cleanup requires some lifting and bending at the sink. The qualification requirements listed above are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required to perform the essential functions of the job.     DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The following typical tasks and responsibilities are representative of the position's essential duties.

  • Responsible for the supervision, safety and well-being of children.
  • Responsible for the implementation of a developmentally appropriate curriculum, weekly lesson plans and daily activities.
  • Responsible for monitoring and collection of tuition fees.
  • Responsible for staff scheduling, orientation, site training, site staff meetings and performance evaluations.
  • Reports on potential or actual employee performance issues to the Children’s Services Supervisor and recommends disciplinary action.
  • Involved in the Staff hiring process for their site.
  • Maintains all State requirements including student and staff files.
  • Works with facility management to ensure proper facility usage, maintenance and safety standards are maintained.
  • Conducts parent conferences with the children's parents on school adjustment and classroom behavior.
  • Responsible for children's developmental progress evaluations and observances.
  • Responsible for snack menu orders/purchases with supervisor's approval.
  • Attends all meetings and activities of the program i.e. unit training, staff meetings and parent meetings, etc.
  • If assigned to a site that includes a food program, responsible for daily paperwork for the program.
  • Completes District-provided training to include CPR, First Aid and preventative health care practices and follow-up training sessions recommended by the supervisor.
  • Recommends supplies and equipment to be purchased.
  • May assist with some preparation and cleanup of breakfast and lunch (i.e. placing dishes and silverware on tables, washing tables, cleaning dishes, etc.)
  • Must keep current on the required safety training designated for this position: CPR and FA, and Defensive Driver’s Training, Supervisor’s Drug Awareness training, and Supervisor’s Sexual Harassment training.
  • Performs related duties as assigned.
