GBLA is a non-profit legal services program providing free legal assistance in civil matters to low-income and seniors residing in Kern County. This group provides full legal representation, brief advice, Pro Se Legal Clinic, self-help materials, and other-brief services. For help, you must be:

  • at or below 125.0% of poverty level;
  • Most GBLA projects have income and asset guidelines. Call for more info.

    greyarrow: Family Law Facilitator for Kern County
    The Office of the Family Law Facilitator provides assistance to unrepresented parties in child and spousal support cases. The goal of the Family Law Facilitator is to provide direction to the unrepresented party.

    The Family Law Facilitator is available to assist unrepresented parties who have questions about Family Law issues, including:

    • Change or obtain child support
    • Wage assignments
    • Calculate child and spousal support
    • Setting a hearing on child or spousal support arrears
    • Reinstate suspended drivers’ license in child support cases
    • Enforcement child and spousal support orders
    • Completing orders and judgments in family law cases
    • Establish paternity
    • Begin, modify and finish a family law case

    The Family Law Facilitator can help you in preparing your own forms and can give you general information. We cannot go with you to court.

    Provides forms, sample packets, and information to unrepresented parties in family

    The Victim/Witness Assistance Center cares about the needs of victims and witnesses of crime, and provides personalized services to meet their needs. Their advocates respond to immediate needs such as food, clothing and lodging, connect clients to appropriate community resources, counseling, reassurance and support following the crime. The program provides court escorts, orientation to the criminal justice system and assistance with financial reimbursement resulting from a violent crime.
