We encourage parents to choose quality child care. Choosing care for your child can be one of the most challenging decisions that you will ever make and it is important to know the correct questions to ask so that you can be informed when you make this choice.
Steps for Selecting Care:
During your child care search, interview several providers and keep these five simple ideas in mind:
LISTEN to your instincts. If you are comfortable in a facility, chances are your child will be too.
COUNT the number of children to be sure there are enough adults present. Providers who believe in quality will urge you to.
LOOK AROUND and compare programs, because they know that finding the right provider is important to you and to them.
ASK QUESTIONS about the day to day care of your child and the provider’s licensing history.
BE INFORMED about the caregiver and the current licensing regulations for child care.

These programs are licensed by Community Care Licensing. The offices are located in Fresno and Bakersfield and maintain files on all licensed programs. California state law requires a licensed child care facility to make accessible to the public a copy of any licensing report pertaining to the facility that documents a facility visit or a substantiated complaint investigation. In addition, a more complete file regarding a child care licensee may be available at an office of the State Department of Social Services Community Care Licensing Division. You have the right to access any public information in these files. As a parent, you have the right to get information about any substantiated or inconclusive complaints about a child care provider that you select for your child. That information is public and you can get it by calling the local licensing office. This telephone number is 559.243.4588. You will need the facility (license) number to request the information and you will only be allowed to access the files of three (3) providers per request.
