CCCC Foundation Board

foundation board: Community Connection for Child Care (CCCC) is child development and family services agency that provides options, education and support to children, families, child development professionals and the community. Partnerships with local businesses and community members are an essential part of CCCC’s mission and support our work with children and families in Kern County.

The role of the CCCC Foundation Board is to enhance the lives of children and professionals in the Kern County child care community and to heighten the awareness of the public to the need and definition of quality child care. Tom Valos, Assistant Superintendent with the Kern County Superintendent of Schools (KCSOS) office, chairs the CCCC Foundation Board. The CCCC Foundation Board meetings are held every other month from 12-1pm over lunch. The meetings are held in downtown Bakersfield at the CCCC 24th St. office and open to the public. Your position as a Board member will involve participation at regular meetings and community events, which may require a time commitment of up to 4 hours a month. CCCC Board members are voted into 3 year-staggered terms. Please see the current list of Board members on the back of this page.

CCCC Foundation Board members play an important role in raising our agency awareness and heightening the public’s understanding of the need, definition and importance of quality child care. CCCC’s fund development specialist acts as the liaison to the Foundation Board. The liaison supports the Board’s work and serves as their primary contact. This representative also oversees all of the agency’s grants, fundraisers and office communication.

CCCC relies on grants, fundraisers and generous donations to continue and improve our services. Two of our major fundraisers include the Greg & Steve children’s concerts and Cartridges for Kids, an environmentally friendly recycling program that is safe, educational and pays cash to nonprofits, allowing them to fund projects that are a priority.

CCCC’s fund development efforts help support programs and services that ensure children’s safety, promote healthy development and contribute to children’s school readiness. In 2005, CCCC team members:

  • Provided trainings to support children’s healthy development and promote quality child care
  • Helped serve hundreds of families at car seat safety inspection events
  • Distributed over 100 copies of the CCCC’s car seat safety video to programs across the United States.
  • Produced a Literacy Calendar for 2006
  • Launched the www.everydaylearning.net web site
  • Helped increase the capacity of licensed child care in Kern County and...
  • Provided over 4,000 families with child care referrals.

CCCC invites you to join our team and help build partnerships that improve children’s lives. Foundation meetings are open to the public. For more information, please contact Lorena Berumen at 661.861.5217.

Our next meeting date will be Monday, March 20, 2006 from 12:00 to 1:00 p.m. in Conference Room A at the 24th Street office in Bakersfield. Hope to see you there!

UPCOMING CCCC FOUNDATION BOARD SPONSORED COMMUNITY EVENTS

On Earth Day 2005, the CCCC Foundation Board is pleased to announce the unveiling of its new environmentally friendly fundraiser, Cartridges For Kids. This unique fundraiser has helped thousands of educational and nonprofit organizations nationwide reach fundraising goals...and now it is here in Kern County!

Every year millions of pounds of inkjet, laser, fax and copier cartridges as well as cell phones are tossed into landfills. Teaming up with Cartridges For Kids will help keep these items out of the landfills and generate funds for projects that are a priority for Kern County. Participanting organizations, businesses and families collect empty toner and inkjet cartridges as well as used cell phones, and for every item recycled through this program a donation is made to the CCCC Foundation. Money raised will help CCCC continue to create and support innovative programs that educate child care providers and families about the importance of quality child care and car seat safety.

By making this small commitment, you can celebrate Earth Day everyday and make a lasting impact on the lives of others in our community. Learn how you or your organziation can help Kern County children with Cartridges for Kids by clicking here!
