Welcome to Blake Elementary School

Blake Elementary School is located in the small ranching community of Woody, California, approximately 35 miles from Bakersfield. This historic school services Kindergarten through Eighth grade students, in which the students are instructed in a K-8 grade, self-contained, one room schoolhouse. The school currently serves 10 students, 5 girls and 5 boys. The Blake School District is one of the smallest school districts in the state of California.

The Blake School District employs one credentialed teacher/principal, one part-time instructional aide, one part-time secretary and one part-time custodian. Blake Elementary school receives adminstration services and Speech/language services, which are contracted through Kern County Superintendent of Schools. The Blake School District Board consists of three board members from our Woody community.

The instructional day begins at 8:00 am, and ends at 3:00 pm, Monday through Thursday. On Fridays, the day begins at 8:00 am, and ends at 1:00 pm. The school district has a resource room/computer room, which has a total of 6 student computers, all with internet access. For students who are at high risk, tutoring is available, as well as, small group workshops.

Blake school is committed to laying affirm educational foundation for each and every student. While serving in this diverse classroom, the staff, community, and Administration are determined to achieve success in producing and active learning environment for all students. The district has high expectations of not only the students, but of the highly qualified personnel it employs. This district is focused on the whole student, therefore, staff and volunteers must create within the classroom and campus, a safe and orderly environment conductive to learning and maturing.

IT'S SUMMER!
The summer sun is shining at Blake Elementary School, but our playground is quiet. Our students finished the year with great accomplishments under their belts. Our eight students read 236 books for our Scholastic Reading Counts Programs earning a total of 440 points! Our high point winner was Michaela Lagas, who read 48 books and earned 90 points! Way to go Michaela!

We are already looking forward to a great school year in 08-09! Kindergarten registration has begun. Please call the school to get your kindergarten student registered as soon as possible. Physicals and dental check-ups must be completed before entering school.

We welcome our new teacher, Mrs. Dawn Carver, to Blake. Mrs. Carver is coming to us from Kernville Unified School District with over 7 years of teaching experience. Mrs. Carver will be on campus beginning the first of August, so come by and meet our new Teacher/Principal.

Opportunities for Parental Involvement

Blake Elementary School welcomes parents or grandparents who want to be part of their childs' learning experience. We send home monthly Parent Newsletters, encourage attendance at all our field trips, and would welcome any parent/grandparent into our classroom to listen to our students read, play a math game, or help in an art project. Please contact our school office to volunteer in any area.
