BLAKE STUDENTS WRITE TO SOLDIERS IN IRAQ

In the month of November, the Blake Elementary School students were busy writing letters of encouragement and sending goodies to the soldiers of the 101st Airborne Division stationed in Iraq. The students, with the help of community members, collected over 50 items to send to our troops and each child wrote a letter.  Here is just one example of the letters to our troops.

"Dear Soldier:

My name is McKenzie. I live in Woody, CA. I am 6. My dogs are good.
Thank you for fight for us. Be safe and watch out for  fire. You are great!
From McKenzie"

On December 10th, our students learned that the soldier they had adopted was severely injuired in Iraq. Pvt. Jamin Moore, a Bakersfield resident, was hit by an IED while traveling with four other members of his troop. Jamin was the only survivor of the attack. Jamin is currently in San Antonio, TX, receiving extensive treatment for the burns that cover 60% of his body. He is expected to make a full recovery. Blake Students and Staff will be sending Get Well letters to Jamin. Please remember Jamin Moore and his family in you thoughts and prayers.

BLAKE STUDENTS GO TO THE ZOO!

The Blake Elementary school has gone Zoo Wild! On Tuesday, November 20th, the staff and students visited the Fresno Zoo for a day of up close encounter with the Animal Kingdom.  We saw bears, tigers, camels and giraffes, and most importantly - FLAMINGOS!  The children learned so much about the habitat, foods and survival of natures most interesting creatures.

OFF TO THE BALLET

The Blake Elementary School students enjoyed a day at the Bakersfield Symphony's performance of the Nutcracker Suite.  The Students loved the music, learned much about the art of Ballet, and were fascinated by the moving stage!  I think we now have 5 eager young ballerina's looking to become the next "Clara" in future presentations.
