Welcome
Historically Belridge Elementary School has a population of approximately
60 students and a certificated staff of 5 teachers. Since its opening, the
school has enjoyed strong parent and community support. Belridge School located
at 19447 Wagonwheel Road in McKittrick, California. Belridge is a rural K-8
district in Kern County, and has been educating children on the west side
since the early 1900's. The school population is approximately 50 percent
Hispanic and 50 percent Anglo.
Student Support Services
The District uses the services of the Kern County Superintendent of Schools Office for educational assessment and placement for students with special needs. They also support school site administrators with strategies for assisting students. Vision/Hearing is tested at kindergarten, second, fifth, and eighth grade levels. Scoliosis screening is conducted at the seventh and eighth grade levels. A speech specialist visits our school on a regular basis. Other programs such as DARTE and National School Assemblies assist in the education of our students. On a weekly basis, all students receive specialized instruction in physical education and music.Class Size
All classes are under 20 students per room. There are 4 combination classes: K-1, 2-3, 4-5, 6-8. We are fortunate to have a music teacher who is on campus Tuesday each week. He teaches vocal music, as well as, instrumental music and band.Textbook and Materials
Belridge School District sets a high priority upon ensuring that there are sufficient, high quality textbooks to support each teacher's instructional program. State textbook adoptions are conducted on a seven-year cycle by subject area, ensuring that textbooks are always as current as possible.
Additional
support materials are provided to enhance the instructional program. These
include: computers, calculators, audio-visual equipment, maps/globes, encyclopedias,
dictionaries, math manipulatives, and a fully equipped library including
class sets of literature and computer software. A satellite, micro dish,
the Internet and cable programs (via Valley Wireless) are utilized through
the Superintendent of Schools Office to enhance teaching in the classroom.
Community Involvement
Parent involvement is important in promoting student achievement. Parents are active in the School Site Council and Parent Club. The Parent Club works with the classroom teacher to conduct fund raising event and classroom parties. When asked, the Parent Club has supplied the district with volunteer help and refreshments for special evening events, as well as, donated monies or purchased equipment for the district.
