IEP Coaches Training

WHAT IS A IEP COACH?

An IEP Coach is someone who has knowledge of the process of developing an IEP.
An IEP Coach is someone who has a “bag” of strategies for dealing with difficult situations.
An IEP Coach is someone who knows resources of the district and the SELPA.
An IEP Coach has technical knowledge for completion of compliant documents.
An IEP Coach knows the tasks that must be completed during the meeting.

The IEP Coaches Training is the first level of developing a SELPA-wide strategy for reducing the number of complaints, due process and fair hearings. It is designed to provide administrative designees with the skills and awareness of “how to” chair a compliant, effective, positive IEP meeting and feel confident and comfortable doing so…even with no background in special education.

This training is designed for administrators and designees who facilitate IEP meetings. It will not provide training on the development or implementation of goals and objectives. The IEP Coaches Training is based on the concept that knowledge and information will prevent disagreements.

As an IEP Coach, you will be expected to share this information at school sites on a regular basis. You will become part of a network of individuals who will meet periodically to share successes and strategies. Workshop sessions are limited to 35 participants. Flyers will be distributed in the fall. For additional information, please call Darleen Jehnsen, Director, Kern County Consortium SELPA, 661.636.4802.
