BICM SELPA Certification Training

DOES YOUR DISTRICT HAVE SOMEONE TRAINED AS A BICM?

Every school district should have at least one individual who has the skills to develop legally defensible, compliant, positive behavior intervention plans that include recommending strategies and supervising interventions and revisions of the plan. The goal is one person at each site who is able to support teachers and students by providing both the required sections and the best practices of behavior plan interventions.

The Kern County Consortium SELPA has developed a BICM certification plan. This training will be repeated twice during the 2006-2007 school year. Successful completion of this rigorous training will lead to certification by the SELPA as a Behavior Intervention Case Manager (BICM).

The workshop will equip participants to conduct baseline functional behavior assessments and behavior support plans, as well as the more intensive functional analysis assessments and behavior intervention plans required for students whose pervasive maladaptive behaviors require a more intensive approach.

Participants will attend five half-day afternoon trainings. Training dates for 2006-2007 are as follows:
Screening Test Session 1 Session 2 Session 3 Session 4 Session 5
Series I 9/01/06 10/13/06 10/20/06 10/27/06 11/03/06 11/17/06
Series II 12/01/06 1/12/07 1/19/07 1/26/07 2/02/07 2/09/07

Individuals seeking BICM certification should have thorough prior knowledge and experience in all special education processes and theories/methods of behavior change. The training and criteria for certification are rigorous. Certification will be awarded to participants who pass a final written exam and submit a comprehensive assessment portfolio.

Brochures with complete information and dates will be distributed prior to each of the trainings. For additional information, please contact the SELPA Office, 661.636.4886.
