A Message from the Director
Welcome to the 2009/2010 school year!
On behalf of the Kern County Consortium SELPA, welcome to the 2009-2010 school year! Please take time to visit the Kern County Consortium SELPA website frequently for up-to-date information on future workshops, helpful information for educators and parents, and for links to resources that you will find helpful as you serve your students.
The continuing goal of the Kern County Consortium SELPA is to build the capacity of educators, service providers, and families to effect positive outcomes for children. We put children first by providing evidence-based best practices and support to those who work with them.
The Kern County Consortium SELPA will modify the professional development delivery system for the 2009-2010 school year as a result of changing district needs and current economic conditions. In particular, workshops and training events will be regionalized as much as possible in order to reduce travel time, the need for substitute staffing, and the costs associated with staff development. We have also expanded our offerings to address the needs of our member districts and charter schools.
Additionally, the SELPA will extend mastery of the concepts covered in the regionalized trainings by implementing a coaching model. It is anticipated that the implementation of this model will enhance the skill set of participants by providing ongoing professional development and support throughout the school year.
I am excited about the new school year and look forward to having the opportunity to support our SELPA’s special education students through our staff development activities. Please feel free to call our office if there is a way in which we may support you now or in the future.
Gregory A. Rhoten, Director
Kern County Consortium SELPA
