Children's Mental Health Services
Kern County’s Children’s Mental Health System of Care has built a network
of community-based mental health services so children and families can
more easily reach professionals to help them with mental health and
substance abuse problems. Children and adolescents who are seriously emotionally disturbed and have or are eligible for Medi-Cal or Healthy Families Insurance coverage are eligible for county mental health services. Kern County children's mental health services are provided right in your community at schools, clinics and homes.These services include:
- Individual, family and group counseling
- Social skills groups
- Medication for psychological problems
- Information and referral for support services

Additional children's programs include:
- AB2726 - Mental health, case management and social skills training for special education students. Children’s Specialty Services – Serves children and teens who have been sexually abused as well as juvenile sex offenders.
- MIST- A multi-agency collaborative team that works to stabilize families with home, school and placement interventions to help strengthen and preserve the family.
- TBS – Therapeutic Behavioral Health services are 24/7 services provided on a short-term basis to eligible minors.
- Wraparound – Individual, one-on-one, family-centered and crisis response services available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

- Kern County Department of Human Services
A service related organization providing aid and services to the children and adults of Kern County including financial and medical aid, food and employment assistance and child welfare services including foster placement, adoption and family reunification.
- Parents for Children
