Traumatic Brain Injury

A brain injury occurs every 15 seconds and Brain Injury is the #1 cause of disability in children.

“Traumatic Brain Injury” means an acquired injury to the brain caused by an external physical force, resulting in total or partial functional disability or psychosocial impairment, or both, that may adversely affect the educational performance of the injured and result in the need for special education. The need for special education is determined through the educational assessment process.The term applies to open and closed head injuries resulting in impairments in one or more areas, such as cognition; language; memory; attention; reasoning; abstract thinking; judgement; problem-solving; sensory, perceptual, and motor abilities; psychosocial behavior; physical functions; information processing; and speech. Some people may have seizures as a result of a TBI. The term does not apply to brain injuries that are congenital or degenerative, or brain injuries induced by birth trauma. arrow: More...
