Dropout Rates
Each year the California Department of Education calculates the dropout rate from local schools. There are two measurements for this rate: the 4-Year Derived Rate and the 1-Year Rate. The most commonly used is the 1-Year Rate which is calculated by totaling the number of dropouts from grades 9-12 and dividing that number by the total 9-12 enrollment. The California Department of Education's DataQuest website houses the state's education data. With some information dating back to the early 1990s, local researchers can easily compare trends over time for students. This site offers dropout data for individual schools and districts, as well as, county and state information.
The following links are a small portion of the data available at this website. DataQuest is very user friendly and for those regularly using education data, we recommend becoming well acquainted with it.
