Academic Performance Index
Each year public schools conduct standardized tests among all children in 2nd through 11th grades. These tests allow parents, teachers, administrators, and policy makers to compare groups of students on their knowledge of basic subjects.Recently, due to concerns about school accountablity, a compiliation score made up of student Standford 9 scores was designed to rate each school. This Academic Performance Index (API) score allows for easy comparison between schools. API scores are not calculated for districts, counties, or the state.
The California Department of Education's DataQuest website houses the state's education data. With some information dating back to the early 1990s, local researchers can easily compare trends over time for students.
The following links are a small portion of the data available at this website. DataQuest is very user friendly and for those regularly using education data, we recommend becoming well acquainted with it.
