You must fill out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) to receive federal aid. The FAFSA is available from your high school counselor, any financial aid office, or the public library. You can also complete the FAFSA application online in English or Spanish at www.fafsa.ed.gov.
Types of Financial Aid include
- Grants and schoalrships include money that you do not have to pay back.
- Work-study is money earned from work that you use to help pay for educational expenses.
- Loans inmude money that you borrow and must repay (with interest).
- Educaid has a list of other types of Financial Aid available to college-bound students.
The California Student Aid Commission, administers State aid for California resident students with financial need as determined by the information contained on their Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). In addition, the well funded Cal Grant programs require academic qualification as derived from the Student Aid Commission Grade Point Average (GPA) Verification Form. Both the FAFSA and GPA Verification must be postmarked by March 2nd each year.
